Blog 42 - So...Cold....

I'm from SoCal, aka, the weather there never really gets below 30 degrees ever throughout the schoolyear, and snowfall happens like once every ten years, and even if it does snow it will be less than an inch. Anyway, my least favorite thing about coming to Ohio is the crazy weather change. My dad told me that it takes a body seven years to adjust to a new climate, so obviously my body is still used to the warm weather in Southern California since I've been living there the past 10 years. When I came here freshman year I basically had to buy out a whole winter wardrobe since I basically own a few hoodies, shorts, jeans, t-shirts, and tank tops. No thermals, heavy puffy jackets, warm boots, or any of that good stuff to keep you warm and toasty during the cold season. The worst part about winter isn't even the cold though, its that the sun doesn't shine. I've read that a body needs 15 minutes of sunshine a day, and that if you don't get it you get this kind of syndrome where you feel depressed without the sun. Last winter I definitely got that, and was pretty down in the dumps for most of the wintertime. It got so bad that I went out and bought extra lighting for my room just to imitate the sunlight (though this was a subconscious effort and I didn't really realize why I did it until winter had passed). As much as I dislike the cold, I really do like the snow. Some people thought I'd never seen snow since I live in California, but keep in mind that theres mountains so people go up there to ski all the time. That, and the fact that I lived in Ohio until I was 2 and Iowa from 3-10. I also like curling up near fires and sipping hot chocolate. My favorite thing though, honestly, is the cute clothes they have for fall and winter :) I'm such a girl..

  1. Having lived in Columbus for 10 years, I've come to embrace the cold weather we get. I am usually sick of the heat by the time fall rolls around, and I think my favorite time of year is the beginning of fall. Its not too hot or cold outside, its just nice.

  2. I've never lived anywhere warm so I'm pretty used to the cold by now but even though I'm used to it doesn't mean that I like it.

  3. I've lived in the north my whole life (Cincinnati and South Bend, Indiana) but lived in Floria for the first 8 months of my life, and i STILL feel like I'm use to that weather more. I HATE the cold. I'm never going to leave my room next quarter besides for classes. Anyway, just curious, why did you choose to come to Ohio State? It's not exactly close to California...
