Today is a day where a nonprofit group called To Write Love On Her Arms spreads awareness about those who suffer from depression. They ask for today and tomorrow for people to write the words "love" on their arms to show their support for people they know who suffer from depression.
Here's the facebook group description:
"To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.

I myself have never experienced depression, but my roommate last year used to a few years back. We didn't necessarily get along, but I think I could see signs of her suffering sometimes, though I never really talked to her about it. I guess the thing is that these days people feel a lot of pressure from society, and though depression is partially due to chemical imbalance, I think a lot of it really does come from outside influence and pressure. People bullying others and making them feel insecure and unstable is really negative, and though it may seem like only those who are weak suffer from these negative effects, that really isn't the case. All of us feel pressure, whether it be from our family, friends, the media, or even ourselves. How we deal with the pressure is what helps define who we come to be and how we grow to who we are today. I can only hope that those who suffer from depression can learn to love themselves and discover that who they are inside is beautiful and cared for by the people they surround themselves with. Whether or not you decide to participate in the movement, I at least hope that I spread some awareness today.

Yeah someone very close to me suffers from depression. It's not as serious as suicide or anything like that, but it still affects them a lot. I think mostly because depression is viewed as such a negative thing in our society, that there must be something wrong with them because they need to be on medication, but really it's like any other disease where you need to take medicine.
